2022 was my first year documenting the HMV. I was new in town and totally amazed by the space. My first commission in Hamburg was to photograph their Frühlingsfest, but before the event I was also called in as a helping hand to help build the place. I embraced the opportunity and got fully immersed in this universe (totally in love).
I got to spend time with the crew, understand how the collective works, climb ladders all the time (thaaaat was a challenge for me). Fun fact: I have a ladder tattooed on one arm and a door on the other. They are little details I imprinted on my body years before, with a deep but quite abstract personal meaning. After the Matz, those marks made way more sense. Mystery and hard work can create crazy environments.
And of course, I got to see and document for the first time this magical event that is the Frühlingsfest. Later, they commissioned me to create an institutional video, which I had a blast shooting.
Looking back at it now is quite funny. I barely knew these people back then, and some of them became like family to me, just as the place became like home.
Sooo here we go: Frühlingsfest, Hans Resonanz, and Winter Bazaar. The full HMV package.
